First we welcome Dr. David Gold, Chartered Fellow of IOSH, Chair of the Fire Risk Management Group, Vice Chair of the IOSH Swiss Network, and member of the IOSH Presidential Team. David will take us through how IOSH, its members and training partners have responded and continue to respond to the pandemic, including our Returning Safely campaign, managing the risks associated with a second wave and local lockdowns, and our calls to action to our key stakeholders – the OSH profession, business and policy-makers. We hope this presentation will either reinforce that you’re on the right track or give you ideas to enhance your approach.
Afterwards we look forward to hearing from Simon Willey MC, a decorated and experienced Royal Marines Sniper who is currently the Sergeant Major of X-Ray Company, 45 Commando, based in Arbroath, Scotland. Simon will provide us with an introduction to leadership within the Royal Marines – including the use of adaptive/situational leadership styles, and an outline of why effective leadership is critical to high performance. He will also delve into a series of leadership vignettes focussing on the events surrounding the Invasion of Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan in 2007; a tour in which Simon was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry. This overview of the aids used to deal with leadership under pressure and how these aids can be utilised by leaders and managers within your organisation will definitely get you thinking.
